Where are The Tall Ships Races being held in 2018?
This month-long, international event kicks off in style in Sunderland, when, after an exciting 5-day festival, the Tall Ships fleet races to Esbjerg, Denmark. The ships ‘cruise in company’ to Stavanger in Norway and Race 2 will take the Races to their conclusion in Harlingen, Netherlands.
What are the dates for The Tall Ships Races 2018?
The spectacular Tall Ships will visit four beautiful ports over July and in to August, they are:
Sunderland: 10th – 14th July
Esbjerg: 18th – 21st July
Stavanger: 26th -29th July
Harlingen: 3rd – 6th August
When is the event in Sunderland?
The amazing event will take place from 10th – 14th July. The ships should all have arrived by midday on Wednesday 11th. Sunderland is privileged to be the first host port and only UK port in The Tall Ships Races 2018. Visitors will enjoy the spectacle of the magnificent Tall Ships alongside an exciting five day programme of culture and entertainment.
You may have seen some literature that the event was to open on the 11th but as this is such a fantastic opportunity for people to see these amazing ships we wanted to give as much time as possible for people to experience the event. Go to question number 8 for event opening times

Where is Sunderland?
The city of Sunderland is located in North East England. It is a coastal city at the mouth of the River Wear with adjoining award winning beaches of Roker and Seaburn.
Is the event just in one place in Sunderland?
No, the event is split into 4 event zones in close proximity to the river, Port and award winning beaches:
Event Zone A – The Port of Sunderland (South of River)
Event Zone B – Town Moor and East End (South of River)
Event Zone C – St Peter’s (North of River)
Event Zone D – Seafront (Saturday 14th July only) (North of River)

Will there be a souvenir event guide available to buy?
Yes, a souvenir event guide will be available to buy at locations across all Event Zones over the course of the event.
There will also be the opportunity to buy the souvenir event guide in advance from July 2rd at Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, National Glass Centre and online at www.tallshipssunderland.com

The Souvenir Event Guide will include full details of all the participating Tall Ships and maps with details of what will be in each Event Zone.
Who is funding the event and who are the event sponsors?
The event is funded by Sunderland City Council.
Arts Council England, Heritage Lottery Fund and Sir James Knott Trust have part-funded the cultural and entertainment programme, and the volunteer programme.
