“Jack’s Story” will see Emma re-enact the story of Jack Crawford who, although being press ganged into the Royal Navy, came to be hailed as the Hero of Camperdown. He famously “nailed the colours to the mast” after his ship came under heavy fire at the Battle of Camperdown and the Admiral’s flag was felled – a sign of surrender averted by Jack’s actions. Jack’s daring climb to the top of the mast will be recreated by Emma who will be literally climbing a mast of one of the Tall Ships in a daring display of aerial artistry.
Emma’s background is in circus, mainly aerial as well as other circus skills. In 2009 she completed a course at The Academy of Circus Arts where she won the award for Best Aerial Act of the year and a contract for Zippo’s Circus the following year. In 2011 Emma started running aerial classes at Dynamix in Gateshead and now teaches at 3 different venues, running 11 sessions a week along with private sessions. Emma also spends her time organising student showcases which have attracted audiences of 150 people. Last year Emma completed a 3 month professional aerial course in London at the well renowned Gravity Circus School. She is also a member of Creative Seed, a carnival and performance organisation based in South Shields. Most recently, Emma was invited by Periplum to join the cast of Fireflight, the opening event for The Fire Station performing aerial against their signature pyrotechnic backdrop.
