The finale of the Tall Ships event in Sunderland is the Parade of Sail, when all of the spectacular ships leave their berths to start the race.

Before they race all of the ships will sail up the coast, past Roker and Seaburn, to Souter Point in South Tyneside. They'll then turn round and head out to sea to start their race to Esbjerg in Denmark.

Parade of sail

At 1.30pm Mir leaves Corporation Quay and officially starts the Parade of Sail

Ships will then leave the River Wear at 5 to 10 minute intervals in a continuous stream

Ships will sail along the coast past Roker and Seaburn to Souter Point - along the Sunderland coast will be the best viewing point

There is lots to see and do to the North and South of the river. The Port and Town Moor/East End Event Zones are open until 6pm; St Peters and the Seafront Event Zones are open until 9pm. There is no open ship access today.

Summer Streets Festival is also taking place at the seafront on the same day to provide some extra entertainment for the crowds.
