“Senora’s Gambit” is an interactive performance played out on a giant chess board that has been salvaged from an enchanted ship, the Senora. The chess set comprises of a number of static characters. Audience members are invited to spin the wheel, determining which character comes to life which they do by bursting into a variety of different dance styles - contemporary, hip hop, robotics and circus manipulation such as staff spinning, hula hoops and dance veils.
Penella Bee has 10 years professional experience as a choreographer and performer, specialising in hip hop dance with circus manipulation. Penella developed a variety of street theatre acts both for staged performances and walk about. She has experience in designing, directing and performing in events such as the International Dance Festival, Under the Sea Day, Hip Hop day as well as performing as part of the Bee Badda Boom street dance duo at the Denmark Culture Festival and Split Festival. She has experience as a professional circus performer as part of The Fire Girls with whom she both co-directs and performs. Penella also has experience in specialist high end choreographed fire shows, hula hoop shows, stilt walking, hat manipulation and street theatre style walk about acts. Penella is one of a very few females in the North East to be trained in robotics dance!
